McEntee Formula Junior – Chassis# EN-FJ621
This McEntee formula Junior chassis was constructed by Eric Nichols in 1962 for Stan McEntee. Like so many of the Australian built cars of the period it was based upon the sucessful Elfin Catalina.
The car runs a Ford non cross flow 1100 engine fitted with twin 40 DCOE webbers, tuned extractors, Cosworth camshaft, dry sump coupled to a modified VW rear end fitted with Hollinger ratios.
During the 1960’s and 1970’s divers of circuit cars were not allowed to compete in events which were not sanctioned by the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS). Stan McEntee was also a very successful speedway driver and was not able to compete at both events apart from a few tuning/practice days and hill climbs the car saw little action. In frustration the car was sold to Ray Coleman in 1973 and was to be converted to a Formula Ford.
In 1981 it was then sold to Dave Sullivan in 1981 and it sat until it was acquired by Neil McCrudden in 2000
The car has been restored back to it formula junior specification and has seen a great amount of action since 2001. In 2006 the McEntee was instrumental in Derek Gardner winning the rear engined racing cars championship
The McEntee was raced by Lance Carwardine at the World Series and participated at Pukekohe and Taupo in New Zealand in 2008, Calder and Phillip Island Australia in 2009, Zwartkops, Killarney and East London in South Africa in 2009 and in 2010 the McEntee was campainged by Colin McKee at Hampton Downs and Pukekohe New Zealand as part of the Bruce McLaren Festival.
